Scrapbooking is a popular hobby that has been around for centuries, but has
really blossomed in the last decade. We even celebrate National Scrapbooking
month each May! With so many products and options available, we can sometimes
overcomplicate things and forget that simple mini albums can have big impacts.
When thinking of big albums, some new and experienced scrapbookers put off
starting an album because the big project can be intimidating. Like most things,
practice makes perfect and starting small is a great introduction to a fun and
fulfilling pursuit.
The School Years mini album on page 25 of the Summer Mini is a perfect example
of a small scrapbook that is a great place to start. For experienced
scrapbookers, it is a project that can be quick and thoughtful gifts. This album
simply consists of pages created from several 8-1/2" x 11" sheets of card stock
cut in half, just as you would cut them for a card. The half sheets are folded
in half and can be attached together with staples or ribbon. Images from the
First Day (#118521 wood-mount, #120051 clear-mount) are stamped on each page,
and then a single photo from each school year is added to the pages. This mini
album would make a great gift for moms and grandparents or a treasured memento
for a child. Use the same concept to make an end of year album as a gift for a
teacher. Have each child add a photo or drawing of themselves and a note to the
teacher on their individual page. Use this concept as a springboard for creating
mini birthday albums, mini recipe albums, mini travel journals, or mini wedding
albums to be given as gifts to members of the wedding party. You'll enjoy
creating these quick projects almost as much as people will enjoy receiving
